What is Rebound Therapy? Rebound Therapy is the therapeutic use of a trampoline to provide opportunities for movement. Traditionally it is for people with a wide range of special needs and ability levels e.g. the physical activity ranges from being hoisted onto the trampoline and tolerating being gently bounced to independent vigorous bouncing. Lessons are constructed of both passive and active bouncing in a variety of positions, such as lying, sitting, kneeling and standing.
Background information The phrase "Rebound Therapy" was originally used to describe the use of trampolines in providing therapeutic exercise and recreation for people with a wide range of special needs.
Participants range from mild to severe physical disabilities and from mild to profound and multiple learning disabilities, including dual sensory impairment and autistic spectrum. Rebound Therapy is not gymnastic trampolining; neither can it accurately be described as special needs trampolining because the word "trampolining" implies a sporting element. Rebound Therapy is used to facilitate movement, promote balance, promote increase or decrease in muscle tone, promote relaxation, promote sensory integration, improve fitness and exercise tolerance, and to improve communication skills. >Back
