Hydrotherapy is most easily defined as the therapeutic use of water. Hydrotherapy pools differ from ordinary pools in that temperature, pressure and movement of the water are all controlled. The benefits of hydrotherapy are a result of the principles of buoyancy, hydrostatic pressure and water temperature. Background information The term hydrotherapy was originally used to describe the use of water as a therapeutic whole-body treatment involving moving and exercising in a controlled environment. Hydrotherapy is chiefly used to tone up the body, to stimulate digestion, the circulation, and the immune system, and to bring relief from pain. >Back
