Rights Respecting School

A rights-respecting school teaches about children’s rights and also models rights and respect in all its relationships: between teachers / adults and pupils, between adults and between pupils. Ysgol Ty Coch Buarth Y Capel believes that children’s rights should be at the core and philosophy of our curriculum. We explicitly embed the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) in our policies, planning, practice and culture which means we can see a positive impact of these actions on children, young people and staff, and also on the school’s ethos, practice and environment. This enables and empowers our children and young people to see themselves as rights-respecting global citizens and advocates for fairness and children’s rights locally and globally.

The Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) recognises achievement in putting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) at the heart of a school’s planning, policies, practice and ethos. Ysgol Ty Coch is currently working towards Silver Award of the RRSA.   

January 2017 - Rights Respecting Schools Status - We are delighted to announce that we have recently gained a certificate of commitment to the UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools Bronze Award.  This makes us the first school in RCT with secondary age pupils to do so. Well done everyone!

We gained the Silver Award for Rights Respecting Schools Status in January 2021. This was again an amazing achievement. since then we have been working towards getting our RRS Gold Award.
