If your child has a food allergy, food intolerance or a medical condition that requires a special diet, you can request a Medically Prescribed Diet through Rhondda Cynon Taf Catering Services.

The Catering Team will work with families to ensure suitable meals are available wherever possible.

Please be aware that although every effort is made to provide food that does not contain nuts as an ingredient, there is still a small risk of cross-contamination during food production and preparation. Because of this, some food items may contain traces of nuts. Families of pupils with severe nut allergies should consider this risk when choosing school meals.

The current charges for pupils who are not entitled to free meals are:

• Part-time Nursery pupils: £2.95 per meal
• Secondary-age pupils: £3.30 per day

Paying online offers a number of benefits, including:

• Secure online payments using a debit or credit card.
• The option to create an account and save your child's payment reference number.
• Access to payment receipts and payment history.

• Reduced need for pupils to bring cash into school.

Entry into Tŷ Coch is via the Local Authority.  Children requiring a special school placement are placed on the Pupil’s Admission List.  A multi-disciplinary panel meeting is held by the LA to discuss the needs of each child.  The LA advises parents on visiting the special schools. Parents are welcome to make an appointment to visit Tŷ Coch where they will be given a tour of the school and can discuss the needs of their child and what the school has to offer.

If parents decide that they wish their child to have a place at Tŷ Coch, then the Authority will make the necessary arrangements if a place is available. All pupils entering Tŷ Coch will have an IDP or a PCP aiming to deliver  within 6 weeks of attending the school.  For further information on PCPs, please contact the school or  Access and Inclusion Department at Tŷ Trevithick on 01443 744000 or please click on the link below.

At Ysgol Ty Coch, we are committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment for all learners. We aim to be a Nut-Aware School and take all reasonable steps to reduce the risk for children and adults who have nut allergies. While we cannot guarantee that the school environment is completely nut-free, we work hard to minimise the risk of exposure and to promote awareness throughout our school community. We also encourage learners to develop an understanding of their allergies and, where appropriate, take increasing responsibility for managing them safely as they grow and develop.

To help keep everyone safe, we ask that nuts and products containing nuts are not brought into school, including in packed lunches and snacks. Information about our Nut-Aware approach is shared with all families when their child joins Ysgol Ty Coch and is available in our prospectus and on our website.

Please do not send the following items to school:-

• Packs of nuts
• Peanut butter sandwiches
• Fruit bars or cereal bars containing nuts
• Chocolate bars or sweets containing nuts
• Sesame seed rolls (some children with nut allergies may also be allergic to sesame)
• Cakes or baked goods containing nuts

We appreciate the support of all parents and carers in helping us maintain a safe environment for all members of our school community. By working together, we can help protect those with severe allergies and ensure that everyone can learn and thrive safely at Ysgol Ty Coch.

EMA is a weekly payment of £30 to help 16, 17, and 18-year-olds with the costs of further education.

Payments are made every two weeks as long as the pupil continues to meet the school's attendance requirements.

Getting EMA won't affect any benefits that the pupil or their family already receives.

The Ysgol Ty Coch office holds EMA application forms for the current academic year and new forms are received around March/April for the following academic year.  The forms are distributed to every pupil who is due to enter Year 12. Parents/guardians complete the forms and return to the address which is printed on the forms.
