Ysgol Tŷ Coch is a special school run by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council. We provide education for children and young people aged 3 to 19 who have a range of additional learning needs, including profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), autism, and severe learning difficulties (SLD).

The school opened in 1978 and originally supported pupils with severe learning difficulties. Over the years, the school has grown and now supports a wider range of learners with additional learning needs. We currently have around 250 pupils.

    Tonteg Site

The main school site opened in 1978. It is a single-storey building located in the residential area of Tonteg, near Pontypridd. The school is easy to reach using the A470, A473 and M4 roads.

The Tonteg site is close to local shops and a supermarket. It also has access to community playing fields and a nearby wooded area. The school grounds include a sensory garden and a sensory room, which provides a calm and supportive environment for learners.

    Buarth y Capel Site

The Buarth y Capel site is in the village of Ynysybwl, around six miles north of Pontypridd. It is a single-storey building that has been fully refurbished to meet the needs of pupils.

This site supports learners aged 11 to 19 with autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
