At Ysgol Tŷ Coch, the safety, wellbeing and protection of all our pupils is our highest priority.

We have a team of trained Designated Safeguarding Persons (DSPs) who provide advice and support to staff on all safeguarding matters:

The governor responsible for safeguarding and child protection is Mrs Janice Stuckey. She ensures that the school's Safeguarding Policy is in place and follows current legislation and guidance.

All school staff are required to follow Welsh Government safeguarding procedures. If a member of staff believes that a child is at risk of harm, has been harmed, or may be in danger, they must report their concerns immediately to a safeguarding lead and, where necessary, to the police. Staff follow the procedures outlined in the school's Safeguarding Policy and guidance on Safeguarding Wales. Our safeguarding leads will seek advice from and work closely with the Local Authority's safeguarding services, including the MASH (Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub) and IAA (Information, Advice and Assistance) teams when appropriate.

We believe that working closely with parents and carers is the best way to support children. If we have concerns about a child's wellbeing, we will usually discuss these with parents/carers and work together to resolve any issues.

However, there may be occasions when we are required to seek advice from safeguarding professionals or make a referral before speaking with parents/carers. We understand that this can be difficult, but our responsibility is always to act in the best interests of the child and ensure their safety.

The school also has a duty to report concerns relating to possible radicalisation or extremism. In these circumstances, we follow the Prevent Duty Guidance for England and Wales (2021) and work with the appropriate agencies where necessary. The school has a dedicated Prevent Policy in place.
