Links with Uganda
Our link with Uganda
Since 2010 we have had a partner school in Mbale, Uganda, Lwandubi Primary School.
Mrs Tilley had a very successful trip to visit the school in February which included speaking at a conference about inclusion, and Mr. Mabala, the head teacher from Lwandubi came to visit our school in July. He really enjoyed his visit, particularly watching sports day and his trip round Cardiff. He returned home with a huge suitcase of resources to take back to boost his school library.
He brought us a big bag of beans which we are going to grow in our garden. We also exchanged lots of ideas for joint projects, from sport to art. We continue with our joint collaboration of sharing Traditional Tales. Ty coch pupils produced some brilliant books which Mrs Tilley added to the Lwandubi library and we have received some Ugandan stories too.
Mrs Tilley took almost £400 out to Mbale, generously donated by pupils and parents. It was decided that what the Ugandan school needs most is a reliable supply of electricity so it was agreed to put the money towards solar panels. We managed to raise another £200 in July with a sponsored bike ride. We managed to raise th money needed and with the support of PONT engineers were able to install the panels and make good use of the African sunshine.
Ceris is now the main link which we have with Pont and Uganda. We are also linked with another school " The Overcomers". Ceris has visited Uganda and works closely with Cath and Phil Rickards as part of the PONT project. Recently in June 2017, the school was presented with a special flag in recognition of our involvement with the PONT project. There is another opportunity for the school to visit Uganda in February 2018, where Ceris and another staff member will visit the Overcomers school.
