Sex and Relationship Education (SRE)
Sex and Relationships Education
Overview
The Sex and Relationships Curriculum aims to provide students at Ty Coch with the ability to understand their physical and emotional development and enable them to make positive decisions in their lives.
The curriculum is both age and stage appropriate for the pupils. It follows a natural progression from Foundation Phase through to Key Stage 5. The content and lesson materials can be adapted to suit the needs of the learners. SRE is embedded within the the curriculum through the context booklets.
The emphasis in the primary department is the Friendship Rainbow. This is used as an agreed approach to teach SRE within the school.
The Relationship Rainbow is used to teach SRE within the secondary department.
We are also fortunate that we have a school nurse with invaluable experience and knowledge who can provide more specialist teaching and advice regarding the teaching of SRE in areas that are more sensitive. We also have access to other health professionals who can teach more specialised subjects within the Sex and Relationships framework.
Parents will be informed of the teaching of SRE and have the right to express their wishes that their son/ daughter does not partake in SRE sessions.
If you would wish to chat further about SRE available at Ysgol Ty Coch please don't hesitate to telephone.
